Hello Virtue, wisdom notes blog.

The Betrothal Begins,

Hello friend, The last time I wrote to you I was observing a wedding about to take place. That sight led me to think a little deeper, beyond the moment, but on the time before. The Betrothal period.

What is the betrothal period exactly? By definition it simply means a mutual promise to marry, usually with some sort of dowry included, given to the brides family. But according to Jewish culture, and other cultures as well, it means far more than just simply agreeing to marry one another. In fact, it can be seen as a binding contract, only dissolvable by divorce or death. This agreement, usually made between the soon to be spouse’s parents, is often made way before the two even meet. This is called, kiddushin.

Once this is completed (nisuin), the bride/wife can now go and live with her bridegroom/husband. Do you notice any similarities? If the Lord is our Bridegroom, and the Church is His Bride, then could we too be in the Betrothal Period waiting for our King?

I’m also reminded of what the bridegroom does leading up to nisuin… He prepares a home for His bride, so that when they finally become one HE WILL HAVE A PLACE PREPARED FOR HER!

You see… Jesus Christ, has already paved the way for us, when He died on the cross for our sins, even before we were in our mothers womb (the betrothal begins). He paid the dowry with His innocent blood! We’re just waiting for the Ceremony… The Wedding Feast to Begin.

Love, Virtue

Wisdom Nugget: Ask yourself… If you were preparing for your wedding day, how would you prepare? What are some things you would do? Often women start by losing a few pounds. So, what bad habits, sinful ways do you need to shed off as you prepare for your bridegroom? It’s not to late to start today.
